The combined musical talents of Gordon Huntley and Griff Fulton showcase their more mellow side of production with their brand new album on Anjunabeats ‘when the quiet comes’…
We’re excited to present Leaving Laurel’s sophomore album ‘when the quiet comes’. The album marks a new chapter for band members Gordon Huntley and Griff Fulton following the difficult loss of producer, brother and friend Pierce Fulton, whose talent and passion were immortalised in Leaving Laurel’s acclaimed self-titled 2020 debut album.
After discovering recordings laid down by him and Pierce years prior, Gordon was driven to continue what they had started. From this came eight stunning productions that beautifully showcase a new musical beginning for the band.
“Who do we become when we’re alone? When the story is over, and we've acknowledged the silence - that's when the quiet comes. Making this record was my search to find purpose after Pierce passed. It was a light to show me a way forward. A way for me to grieve, a way for me to hold onto the memories. A eulogy to my friend.
This is the album I always hoped Pierce and I would make together one day. It's my attempt to continue the dream we had, to take what we had started with our first album to a secret place beyond the club. To make a soundtrack for the moments where everything stands still. A record that could showcase the culmination of every unique influence we shared as friends. A record that could be important enough to outlive us both. A record that I hope would have made him proud.
It’s the hardest I’ve worked on anything in my entire life, and the proudest I've ever been of any music I've made. If the road for Leaving Laurel were to end here, I know I gave it my all. I created something with the pieces of what Pierce and I had started, and it feels like the most honest album I could show to the world.” - Gordon Huntley
EXCLUSIVE LISENING PARTIES
To celebrate the release of their album, and in support of their chosen charity, the Yellow Tulip Project, Griff and Gordon recently hosted two exclusive album listening parties in London and New York City.
Soundtracked by the vinyl, the rooms were full of enthused fans who were able to hear the album together for the very first time. At the end of each party, the guys joined the fans for a Q&A where they spoke about how the album came about.
If you missed out, fear not, you can grab your own copy of the vinyl via the Anjuna Music Store. And if you'd like to support the important work in smashing the stigma around mental illness, and donate to The Yellow Tulip Project, why not pick up a limited-edition yellow tulip print? Available now via Leaving Laurel's Bandcamp, the first five of this small-batch art piece will be signed, and all proceeds will go to the organisation.
