The Militant Artists is a new DJ agency founded this year which draws on over 25 years of dance music industry experience. The head militant of this new group is Chris Hampshire, the man in control of Recoverworld, who delivers the very first in a present’s series any trance fan should really check out...

The good thing about reviews here on i:Vibes is you can really speak your mind and not be drawn into the press release toss many PR agencies fire over to you. While quite a few are just that, toss, there are a select few that certainly are not. The Recoverworld label is one which sits galaxies away from the toss folder. They have been an independent label since 1994 and run by a very talented man who knows his trance music Chris Hampshire. In today’s difficult climate for record labels for Chris to still have Recoerworld remain independent is a testimony to his passion and energy for the music. You may know his label for bring you subseries like Discover and Flux Delux.

It has also brought us the Militant Artists, a brand new DJ agency with some serious firepower behind the decks, 25 years worth of firepower when you add it all up. They are all about quality over quantity, which is not a bad thing in today’s very busy dance music market. They brought news a few weeks ago of a new mix series featuring the artists of the militant group. The first one comes form he very top, Chris Hampshire. While he might not have a massive back discography of releases the ones he has release have been outstanding. He is a man who knows what sound fist the labels he manages and has his own signature style of trance with his productions.

There are quite a few digital only compilations that spin out each week so why would I pick this one for a review? Just the name Chris Hampshire on a compilation for me justifies having it. If I were to scan through the singles collection and pick out a quick playlist of my favourite tunes it may well bear a resemblance to the nine featured on this mix. There is nothing new on this mix, but that gives it even more reason to listen to it. With so much new trance out there sometimes the good tracks just get forgotten. Those pumping uplifting tunes which send you to another place and evoke motivation to get up and do something with your Monday mornings are ones you need reminding off.

There are nine in total to get your ears into. Who remembers an artist called Icone? One of the scenes hidden treasures but one Chris puts the highlighter through kicking off the mix with his ‘LightSpeed’ track. Alongside Icone there are classic tunes from Sean Tyas, John Askew, Jordan Suckley, Adam Foley, John O’Callaghan & Bryan Kearny and the man himself Chris Hampshire. Just because there are not 80 odd tracks to choose from does not make this mix a lightweight, it packs some serious volume.

This mix from Chris is the perfect introduction my new KRK’s to the kind of beats I’ll be pushing through them in the months to come, new or old. It’s one you should get your ears around and support labels like Recoverworld who in the hands of Chris Hampshire continue to bring outstanding fresh trance to the table with each release. There will be more friendly fire from the Militant Artists come the New Year so this is only the beginning.

Conclusion:
If you’re looking for some tunes to explain what trance is all about to an uninformed friend this week then this is just the job. If you’re just a trance fan like me wanting to listen to some very fine mixed together beats, this is perfect. Chris Hampshire’s opening attack for the Militant Artists is a direct hit!
