OK, this is a basic question...
Do you need special turntables to play new vinyl? And if you wanted to, could you play vinyl with one turntable, or do you need two?
Sorry about this- rather embarrassing question, but you understand than I have to buy CDs or download around here and all that, and I don't really have the raver/partier lifestyle that can be found in Europe...

- Do you need special turntables to play new vinyl?

Not at all, as long as the record (weather it be 12", 7" or however big ") fits on the thing, any turntable will play it. Weather it be a second hand 1990's one of the market for £10 or the latest technics. There are maily 3 types thought, 35rpm, 45rpm and 75rpm (allthought this one is pretty rare). When buying vinly just make sure what rpm it is and weather your table supports that speed. Most have multi rpm features so you can change the turntable speed for the record.

- And if you wanted to, could you play vinyl with one turntable, or do you need two?

Has to be a yes to that question, currently I only have the one turntable to play my Vinyl. Having a second would only be any use if you where into your mixing. Im getting a second one so I can start putting some mixes together, just need to build/buy a unit to place it one. If listening is all your going to do, its a bit pointless getting 2 turntables.

The raver livestyle does extend beyond Europe ;) But I understand, if you're not close to any big cities... Where in Canada are you?

Small-town Alberta, 200 km away from Calgary or Edmonton. Confused
I see you're from Ottawa...
Yeah, well there's no vinyl shops around here that I know of - and in Edmonton people are more into house than trance - but it's a pretty small bit who are into house, and even less who like trance.
Do you have the names of any Canadian-based online record shops? I'd like to start getting some vinyl, but it costs a ruddy arm and leg to get it, what with shipping and taxes, from Europe.

hmm the only one that comes to mind immediately is

theonlinerecordstore.com

They sell nothing but trance. It'll run you about the same price as they'd charge you in a store (about $15.00+tax) which is lot less than ordering from overseas, but you'll find there's not as much selection. I'll let you know if I find some others!

if its got a needle and it spins it will play. Allthough, 60's not sure what speed they made tables with in them days so not sure if a 45rpm record would play on it Smile
