Post subject: Common food in your region...not common elsewhere |
|
|
Since we come from various places I'm pretty sure dishes common in one region sounds strange (maybe even disgusting) to others....nice if we could share some knowledge here
In Norway we have many strange things that I don't think you find elsewhere in the world...
1. Brown cheese (cheese made from goat milk...caramelized....we have it on a slice of bread)
2. Smalahove (The head of the sheep....NOT common where I live)
3. Fiskeboller ("Fishballs"...fish that's gone through a food-processor with other stuff like milk and flour...formed like eggs and canned...when you take them out of the tin they are kind of jelly...yet a bit more firm...tastes pretty good with potatoes, white sause and karri-spice)
So...what's special where you come from?

Nothing in particular that we Canadians eat I don't think...
Oh, except for Nanaimo bars, which has choclate on top, a creamy custard or mint filling, and then a crumbly cookie bottom. Those are very good!

Ummm...America, being a rather mixed-up bunch of cultures, has basically every form of food imaginable.
Pho - One of my favorites, a Vietnamese form of soup
Boba - Also known as Bubble Tea, basically a Slurpee with starch/sugar balls

STOTTIES- the most amazing invention ever...they are huge fcuk-off bread bun type things...that u can only get in the north east...and the best come from greggs the bakers...which orginated from where i live 'GOSFORTH'!!! in newcastle
Basically there better versions of breadcakes or barmcakes?? if that makes sense....
we also have BROWN ALE (which is quite well known now though) Pease-pudding (some weird stuff u put in sandwitches) ACE Lager (IE tramps piss, 8 cans for £1.49, popular with the very poor and filthy folk down the road in sunderland)
thats all i can think off at the moment like

plain jane yorkshire pud simply just has
milk, flour and egg,
thats all there is to it, and bake,
not making an half assed messy job of it, is another thing :p
thats just the base mix, add whatever you please, to make all sorts of pud
oh another thing.. you use imperial british units, pounds, oz, none of these silly metric european units, like kilos, after all it is a yorkshire pudding!
or so some crazed person i knew that used to make them, used to shout about all the time, heh

i thought the deep fat fried mars bar was a scotish thing.. hmm
oh deep fat fried ice cream works too.. suprisingly it still is kinda solid when it comes out of the oil!
hmm anyone remeber those chocolate cornflake/rice krispies thingies!, you know melted chocholate, add corn flakes, mix, and cool in paper cases.. had one of those 2day!
one thing missing from this thread!
Pot noodles
hmm, eh belgian fries, worth exchanging for pot noodles, trigax?
