On this 50th anniversary of Playboy Magazine, perhaps a discussion of pornography is appropriate. Pornography is defined as
sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal. Those who promote it believe they are exercising their right from the first amendment of the United States Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The delicate question before us goes beyond the legal justification for allowing anyone to speak or write about anything they choose to. It speaks to the moral and ethical ramifications of such an enterprise. Our society today is inundated with references to sexuality in any medium we experience. The often quoted justification is that "sex sells" and therefore if marketing outlets can somehow equate a material purchase with sexual gratification, then some hidden unmet need will be satisfied. This is Freudianomics at its worst. Sex is promoted today as a means to an end and not the expression of love between consenting adults. Pornography portrays sex as some lustful hedonism with little regard for the potential outcome of such an experience. Still, millions of people purchase it for their own sexual stimulation. They believe that since those being filmed are consenting adults there is no harm to anyone. Assuming there is mutual consent among the actors, what is the difference between paying them to have sex with each other and paying a prostitute to have sex with you? Whether you favor or oppose pornography, it is this country's obsession with sex that is the root of the problem and the unfortunate consequences it produces. Until we as a nation can collectively mature out of this sexual pre-occupation we will be trapped in our own national adolescence.

Ive never been interested in porn... even when I first started browsing the net... even though I was young, I never went to porn...

Its ok tho, people enjoy what they enjoy, and personally i just prefer the real thing instead of watching it... Wink

nah, at the end of the day it wouldn't be around if there wasn't a market. whether you agree with it or not it's been around since the dawn of man so its not likely to go away anytime soon.

wtf?! how can you not like porn! haha.. it's not like i buy playboy anways but you're talking like a woman! haha.. porn is a million dollar industry and actually is the number one industry on the internet! obviously there has to be a lot of horney old men (or young ones) out there and the sooner ppl get out of that judgemental phase where everything is based on traditional boring cultural restraints the better we will be. why? b/c it's those very restraints that lead ppl to forget about trying new things. this is not just on a sexual level but a technological/scientific level as well. imagine what western civilization would be like if we all still believed in the divine right to rule or the traditional gender roles... OPEN YOUR MIND whoever wrote this post =) porn is hear to stay, and the sooner we get over it, the sooner we will see naked women walking on the street on a daily basis... sheeeesh!

Porn is separated into a few different genres Filthy and Playboy. Playboy is for the people who are looking at it just for fun not to get off. The Filthy on the other hand...

I don't care what others think but in my mind pornography is a sickness and it has ensnared probably 99.98% of males. I've had problems with it for years and it is one habit that I will break. It changes the way you look at women (argue if you will) but I've seen marriages destroyed by it, relationships destroyed by it. Porn is a 20 Billion dollar industry and it has trapped many. It is the one thing that I wish I never got into because the damage that it has done, will live with me for the rest of my life.
