I'm surprised BT hasn't been mentioned here yet, but I'm sure I'm not the only one into him -- he's an undisputed master of the piano riff.

A lot of the classic IMA stuff has the greatest piano riffs, but later music like "Flaming June" and "Content" and "The Great Escape" have some really nice piano work too. He really knows how to play! Smile

Another one just hit me - Corderoy - Sweetest Dreams (Greg Murray Instrumental Remix) and (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Haven't heard the original, but both of these tracks have a fair bit of piano at the start of them. Both are great tunes as well, especially the Ferry version!

I thought of another one: Above & Beyond - Far From In Love - lots of nice piano work in this, especially at the start but also in the main track.

One that I have not heard for a long time, buried deep in the CD collection but played over the weekend is Armin - Communication. A nice piano melody in there.

Yeah, that piano bit even gets a special credit from Satoshi on the vinyl sleeve... it's awesome, I agree! Smile

I just keep on remembering tracks... Embarassed
-Svenson & Gielen ft. Jan Johnston - Beachbreeze. Loads of piano bits in the "chorus" of the song. Svenson & Gielen's most uplifting track.

I know originally not a trance song back in the days, but...

No one has mentioned.....

N-Trance - Set you free!

I think the piano in that is one of the most memorable of the 90's for me. There's nothing "amazingly groundbreaking" about it, but it really did the job, especially at a time when the charts were filled with East17, Take That etc *shudder*

Yes, that was a good track and the Rob Searle remix worked very well too, proving that it wasn't that far from trance Smile

Also, slightly deviating from "trance" tunes with standout piano segments, if you love your tracks with pianos, i suggest having a listen to "elysium by scott brown" as a wicked hardcore tune with a beautiful piano in it. Theres also a remix called elysium plus with a slight variation of the original piano tho i dont like it quite as much.

I have 'Elysium Plus' on Bonkers: The Rezurrection - awesome tune! The only trouble with this kind of happy hardcore is that a lot of it sounds the same. Y'know - hard kick and hard offbeat bass followed by breakdown with piano chords, followed by low pass filtering of supersaw synth etc... However when the melody is something special this kind of music can sound amazing. 'Skydivin'' by Darren Styles and 'You're Shining' by Breeze & Styles are also good tracks with piano from this genre.

Those two tracks are two of my favourites as well as that Scott Brown number.

A few more old skool style piano riffs, not really trance.

2 Funky 2 - Borthers And Sisters
Manix - Feel Real Good

What really slays me (in a good way) is when the piano is all performed live on top of the programmed beats, with all the little flourishes and noodling -- it's that juxtaposition of the new and the old that gets me every time!

Gotta mention these again, they're too awesome to miss :

BT - Flaming June
BT - Content

But from the ones not mentioned yet :

Sunday Club - Healing Dream (TOP!)
Baby D - Let Me Be Your Fantasy
(not trance, I know, but ain't there a Rank 1 remix of this? anyway, that piano rules.)

And ofcourse I'd like to believe these rank pretty well... Wink

Orkidea - Beautiful (Syna remix)
Syna - Do You Feel?
