Is it possible with CD decks to, for example, mix 10 tracks together and record the mix onto CDR?

Why wouldn't it be? It's no different from mixing 10 tracks using vinyl and recording them to disk. As long as you have the equipment, there's really not a great deal that can't be done with a pc nowadays.

vinyl, cdj, next its just gonna be laptops with dj software, presonally i love vinyl, there just so cool to have, cd is good cause you can get any tune then really, using dj software though on a pc/latop doesnt look as cool as just just clickin buttons etc, vinyl and cd are more hands on and i think thats why its better, some ppl will think otherwise thtough. a couple generations down the line eh...

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm thinking of getting some cd decks, due to vinyl getting to expensive for me to keep buying!

Do you know what you would need to do/have to record a 10 track mix with cd decks?
And, would i need any additional pc software?
Thanks! Smile

To record a set of any lenght onto CD all you would need is a mixer and two CD turntables, wether they be a dual unit or table top. Just plug the output from the mixer into an input device. This could be your PC soundcard, record it stright to a digital file and then burn it to CD. Or buy a CD recorder, Tascam do a decent one and plug your output stright into that and record it live onto a CD.

You can even just load the tracks you want to mix into a DJ program and mix them using that.

for recording mixes you can use
Cool Edit Pro 2.0
Soundforge

or any other program...but the ones listed above are very reliable and have lots of extra features Wink

CooleditPro 2.0 is what I use for recording work Smile You won't find it under that name any more though, as Adobe bought out Syntrillium Software and changed the name of the program IIRC.

Yes, and then again, no. While you 'can' mix using nothing but a virtual mixer on a pc, using mp3's or cd decks or whatever, it's best to have a real mixer hooked up to your mixing program (Traktor DJ Studio is my preferred poison).

Though admittedly I do use Mixmeister 3 for CD mixes mostly, as using a waveform view means very few mistakes, even if it is a little on the clinical side of things compared to a live mix using decks etc..
