Free version of Mixed In Key (1.2) with Ableton/ID3 support!

Mixed In Key Version 1.2 is now available! This is a DJ application that can make Harmonic Mixing easier. The previous release has gotten lots of positive feedback from professional DJ's and beginner DJ's alike. Both the free version and the full version have been updated. Both can be downloaded from http://www.mixedinkey.com

List of new features:

• Mixed In Key can now save identified keys in the ID3 tags for MP3 files!
  
• Added new menu item "Move to collection.." to improve collection management
  
• Drag-and-drop support for Ableton Live!, Traktor, Virtual DJ and most CD burning applications!
  
• Made it easier to manage collections and move files into them. You can right-click everywhere
  
• Added support for files with a 48,000Hz sample rate
  
• Added support for very large files (35Mb for MP3, 135Mb for WAV)
  
• Fixed bug where Mixed In Key did not process UPPERCASE extensions (.MP3, .WAV). It now works with all UPPERCASE and lowercase extensions

To load songs in Ableton, hold down the Right Mouse Button on a specific song and drag-and-drop it into Ableton Live!

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback for Version 1.0 and Version 1.1. We put in many of your feature requests since Version 1.0. The two most requested features (ID3 tag support, and Ableton Live! support) have been included in 1.2 for both free and full versions. Also, there is a possibility of a Mac OSX version in the future. Currently, Mixed In Key works on Windows 2000 and Windows XP computers.

Here are the two of the most-frequently asked questions that I am getting through e-mail:

1. Is there a Mac version that works with Ableton?

2. How accurate are the results?


We have gotten a lot of requests for the Mac OSX version. Since a great deal of people are using Macs, it makes sense to develop a Mac version. It is just a matter of time before a Mac version is released.


Secondly, some people asked about the accuracy of results. I know this is a pretty sensitive subject, since the program needs credibility before it can become useful. Here's my response:


Mixed In Key is highly accurate because it analyzes every user's personal collection. This works great because vinyl releases can be different from BeatPort releases. The label that pressed the vinyl could have transposed the song into a different key. This software scans your personal .MP3 and .WAV files, you will get accurate results that are personalized to your collection. This is more accurate than online databases.


The 95% accuracy statement is true for my music collection. This algorithm has made my club mixing much better. Before I licensed the [tONaRT] algorithm in 2004, I was using the piano to find keys manually. After a few weeks of using [tONaRT], I switched completely to using this software. I have not experienced any obvious "out-of-key" mixes since then.


Here's the quickest way to check if your results are accurate or not -- Download the free version, analyze your favorite songs, and see which ones are compatible.

You can double click on results in "Browse Collection" to play them. Pick ones that are within 1 number of each other. For example, pick a song that says 7A or 7B, and then pick a song that says 8A or 8B. If two songs start to blend together seamlessly, you've just experienced a harmonic mix. Imagine how good this would sound when mixed on DJ software or DJ hardware.

if you ask me, this program is good and all, but it copies the features of rapid evolution (www.mixshare.com), which has much more functionality and is free.

i did not choose the songs for this comparison, camelot did, who is a respected professional in the field of harmonic mixing. i merely took the time to run the programs against the same songs and post my results, they are clear and honest and waiting for people to verify.

saying "the 95% accuracy statement is true of my own collection" is the only biased thing here. first of all, what are these songs you are referring to? even if you did state them, you could simply select songs of yours that mixed in key got right. the only way to compare key detection accuracy is to take a set of songs not picked by the developers, where the key is known, and compare. that is what is being done on this link.

i feel it is important that the dj community knows the truth, and is not mislead by these statements. if you want the most accurate key detection, go get rapid evolution, for now at least it wins by a good measure, even against mixmeister

i'm not trying to give proganda either, but i'd like to see rapid evolution grow as it's community based and designed to share bpm/key information. the more people that use it, the more people benefit from each other's knowledge...
