‘The Big Ask’ Campaign, which was launched by Thom Yorke in 2005, is calling on thousands of people across the UK to demand the Government takes action to tackle climate change. Friends of the Earth is calling for the introduction of new climate change laws which would force the Government to cut emissions of Carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, by 3 per cent every year.

ABOUT THE DJS:
A Guy Called Gerald
Gerald’s first creative efforts were in The Hit Squad, a Manchester hip hop collective. They released the single Wax On The Melt before three of the members, Gerald, Graham Massey and Martin Price formed 808 State. It was a brief collaboration resulting in one album ‘Newbuild’ and their biggest hit Pacific State. But by then, Gerald had already gone solo, having unwillingly scored a chart hit with the seminal classic Voodoo Ray, the track to put British House music firmly on the map.
In 1992, following a brief period signed with Sony and resulting in his 2nd album Automannik, he began releasing a series of genre defining records on his own Juice Box Records. Juice Box Records opened for business in 1992 and closed six years later after 33 releases. It was responsible for releasing a series of seminal records that provided the blueprint for what was to become jungle then drum n bass. The first singles were compiled and released on the LP 28 Gun Bad Boy. If there was a blueprint for what would transform rave into jungle, then this is it. He followed up in 1995 with the critically acclaimed Black Secret Technology LP incorporating Goldie and the vocals of Finley Quaye. A busy period followed DJing around the globe spreading jungle sound, touring with Tricky and working with the likes of Flora Purim and David Bowie.
In 2000 came Essence (!K7 Records), an experiment in transforming the stereotypically aggressive drum’n’bass sound into soulful arrangements. It featured musicians such as Lady Kier, Louise Rhodes (Lamb), David Simpson and the singer/songwriter Wendy Page. He took a live band on the road in 2001 and toured the US and Europe. Other projects followed; a remix for the soundtrack to the movie Requiem For A Dream and Black Gravity, a collaboration with Bill Laswell and Herbie !&*£?!*£!.
His 7th LP To All Things What They Need was released January 2005 on !K7 Records. Recorded between London and Berlin the atmospheric album featured the poetry of Ursula Rucker and long time collaborator Finley Quaye.
Now in Berlin, he launched his own labels, SUGOI and PROTECHSHON in 2005 with a 12” released on each – Flo-ride and Is Man In Danger. Early 2006 he released Blow Your House Down Remixes on Split Recordings and a collaboration, Time To Jak with Benno Blome on Sender.
The latest release, appropriately titled Proto Acid - The Berlin Sessions is an infectious 71-minute set recorded live. Drenching Detroit-styled techno in sparkling electro, the album's 24 raw club-oriented tracks are all new and meticulously mixed in one long fluid move. The album is a result of experimentation over the last twelve months at private club sessions where he has literally taken his studio to the people. No gimmicks, no dj software, just pure raw undiluted music created for the dancefloor. “It’s the culmination of a dream I’ve had since I started making music, and that’s to take the studio into the club; this album is snapshot of those possibilities.”

The Bassline Circus
The circus is the latest chapter in a saga that started with the huge outdoor raves of the 1980s and 1990s.
When police pressure forced sound systems [rave organisers] — with names like Spiral Tribe, Desert Storm and Total Resistance — to leave the country for Europe, members of the Bassline crew went with them and they have been on the road ever since.
But after a decade dragging decks and speakers literally from London to Timbuktu, they needed a new direction, and a new challenge. So at the end of 2004 Bassline Circus did the unthinkable and went “legit”, they registered as an independent company. And what they have got is very different from the average circus.
Their ring master is a rapper, the acrobats are break dancers, the clowns are self-styled “chavs” (they wear Burberry and what is described as “loads of Dalston bling”), and the circus anthem is a drum and bass re-mix. But Bassline is doing more than just showcasing underground culture for an upmarket audience. A key part of their new direction is working with young people from difficult backgrounds in the north-east London community where they are based. With their own experiences as outsiders, members of Bassline hope to reach out to young people in a way that the authorities sometimes cannot. In the process they aim to give the people they work with a platform for their skills and the chance to learn new ones. Through a National Lottery grant, Bassline are developing ‘Magic Moments’ — a project that will recruit 15 people from the ages of 16 to 25, for mentoring and circus skills training. Magic Moments will culminate with a performance in the Bassline big top next year.

Colin Dale
In 1985 Colin worked as one of the key members of the pirate radio station Kiss FM, during which, the "Abstrakt Dance" radio show was born. For 16 years "Abstrakt Dance" was a ground-breaking show which quite simply brought Techno to the masses. Guests on the show included All the UR crew, Hawtin, Angel, Pullen, Garnier, Saunderson, Craig, May, Cox......the list goes on and on (his status has lead to a feature in the Sony publication – ‘All time 100 DJs’). After the show was put on the internet in 1993 Colin became a household name in Techno circles Worldwide and was the first ever Techno show to be transmitted live with visuals and it was revolutionary. It was around this time that Colin teamed up with Brenda Russell and Colin Faver to do the "Deep Space" series of clubs in London which again saw the team take London's Techno scene to new highs. Other club nights that Colin has been involved in include Electric Boogie, Vapour Space, Deep and Jelly.
Production-wise Colin has recorded for Perfecto on their very first LP, Obsessive, Logic, Sensei, Visitor, Abstrakt Dance, Swag, Laus and Alien Funk amongst others as well as 7 mix compilation LPs for various major record labels. A regular guest at clubs such as Fabric, Rex, Pasha (Buenos Aires) and Love (Brazil) Colin has toured the Worlds clubs extensively. Japan, China, Russia, Australia and Eastern Europe.........Colin is a favourite the World over. Looking back Colin has played some of the Worlds best parties.....Dance Valley, Full Moon, Tribal Gathering, Sunrise, Energy, Love Parade, Automatik and Rage @ Heaven. Fast forward to 2006 and its all systems go...theres the new revamped Abstrakt Dance record label and web-site, residencies at Fabric, Indigo, Herbal, Sumo and Abode, lots of new music productions and a new studio in London. Still as busy and popular as ever these days Colin sound is still tough and funky with blissful shades of Electro and Tech House. Envoy
Envoy’s live shows will serve to confuse anyone who had Hope Grant as just a producer who merely tried to spice up his tracks with the odd vocal. He has been signed to Scottish label Soma since 1995 and, unsurprisingly, originally comes from a singer-songwriter background. Centre stage throughout his shows, Envoy also uses his vocal talent to deep effect and, on other occasions, his singing is sleazier, twisted and darker, a different sound to the utopian feel of classic Envoy material.
Before he began creating his own techno symphonies, Envoy enjoyed a stint in rave combo Bizarre Inc – who now work as Chicken Lips.
His first solo outlets were respected underground imprints Peacefrog and Plink Plonk - where he released as St Vitus Dance and Urban Groove Alliance respectively. Then, in 1995, Hope met Slam – and his first demos became his debut EPs for the label, ‘Solitary Mission’ and ‘Heart Of The Soul’.
Envoy’s name has become a byword for soulful techno, but it was when Carl Cox used the dramatic string groove of ‘Dark Manoeuvres’ from the ‘Coalition EP’ for his ‘FACT’ mix CD, that things started to take off.
Hope’s high pitched vocal on ‘Emotional’, the taster single for his 1998 debut album, ‘Where’s There Life’, was characterised by a soulful tinge. But it was his sleazy, nocturnal narrative on ‘Sex Drive’ – also taken from his debut long player and released as a single in 2002 – that cast him as a darker, figure. His second album ‘Shoulder 2 Shoulder’ came out in 2004 and featured strings supplied by a twenty-nine piece orchestra and the arrangement is by classical/film composer Craig Armstrong as well as more of Envoy’s trademark vocals.

WHAT THE DJS SAY:
‘It’s a great feeling to use the skills we’ve gained from throwing parties, to help create awareness for campaign like the Big Ask and if a few people have a good time in the process then that’s got to be a good thing!’ – Steve Strawberry (Tilted Disco)
“Fueled by the fossils of our predecessors the human race is driving itself to an early grave. It’s time to use our minds to regenerate all of the waste we create and to make new energy. It’s time for the government to take the responsibility and lead world opinion by supporting the Big Ask. ” – A Guy Called Gerald
‘’We realise the planet belongs to all of us. It's all of our collective responsibility to look after it.
This party, in aid of the Big Ask campaign, is hoping to raise the awareness of this issue’ – Chump DJs (Bassline Circus)
‘Setting far off targets isn’t enough, we need governments to take note of the Big Ask, commit to a realistic annual reduction in emissions and stick to it’ – Southpaw (Sinister Recordings)
‘We can all help by changing our lifestyles so it doesn’t have as much of an impact, but I think it’s also important to make sure our government knows they should be pro-active in their approach to tackling this problem’ – Envoy (Soma)
“Climate change is something that affects us all and we need to get some serious Government action on it. This event is a way of getting the message out there and I really hope people will support this, sign up to the Big Ask, put pressure on our politicians and enjoy themselves at the same time" – Colin Dale (Tilted Disco)
