An Exclusive Interview With New Passion Resident DJ - Jon O'bir
Passion’s New Resident Guest DJ.... Who’s Got The 'JOB'?
We are very pleased to be announcing who has got the ‘JOB’ of being the new bi-monthly resident DJ behind the decks at Passion!
We have chosen to use a bi monthly established resident DJ as this will also give more opportunity for us to use new talent that is has shone on our NuPassion events..
So we have chosen somebody that already has a history with us at Passion, somebody who we feel is making waves in the music scene and will deliver what the clubbers want..
This DJ has delivered amazing DJ sets to clubs and festivals across the globe.....
....... introducing (Not that he needs any!) the new Passion bi-monthly DJ guest resident who will make his first performance for us in December......
Genix Ask's JOB A Few Questions!
Genix - Hi mate.. its a great pleasure to have you on board as the new bi monthly resident guest DJ!
JOB - Thanks, pleasure is mine. I’m looking forward to playing regularly at one of UK’s best club nights!
Genix - In a way... you are kind of coming home by playing for us on a more regular basis.. can you tell us how Passion launched your career all those years ago?
JOB - It’s very much a homecoming. I took part in a DJ competition held by M8 magazine and Passion back in 2003. All together 300 people applied to take part in the competition and I ended up winning it! I’d had my first set of decks around about a year and a half before that and to win something like this competition was a dream come true. The prize for winning was to warm up before Ferry Corsten in Passions main room. It turned out Ferry couldn’t do the gig, but another hero of mine, John 00 Fleming stood in, great memories of that night.
Genix - Following on from that does Passion hold a special place in your heart?
JOB - Yeah of course it does, I hold some very special memories from the competition itself to the night warming up for J00F. It’s always held an amazing atmosphere; many DJ’s will back me up on this. It’s the place where it all started for me, so it will always have a special place in my heart.
Genix - When I was announced as Passions resident DJ it made me feel very honoured especially when you look back our previous residents such as JFK, Ferry Corsten and Armin Van Buuren, James Holden name a few.. Can you tell us how it feels to be a part in Passions history?
JOB - I feel very honoured, as you say, the quality of DJ’s which have been resident here in the past is amazing! It proves how consistent passion has been since the start, always putting on line ups with big names as well as up and coming stars, so I’m very proud to be involved with such a high quality event.
Genix - What can the Passion clubbers expect to hear coming out of the speakers when you are behind those decks?
JOB - They can expect to hear the very best of trance music out there at the moment, always like to push the new named artist as well, so expect some fresh beats thrown in. You’ll see that smile on my face and I hope they can enjoy my sets as much as I do!
Genix - Tell us a little about Jon O’Bir! Any new tracks on the way?
JOB - I have a new EP coming out on 11th September on Vandit titled Answers, which is very much the style you will associate with me and Prophase, which is slightly different than my usual style, but still keeps that uplifting/melodic feel of an O’Bir track. Things are really busy at the moment, just the way I like it, plenty of quality gigs lined up for the rest of the year and we are working on an exciting video/podcast project called O’Bir – Access All Areas which has been great fun to do. Starting up a new radio show/podcast as well soon, so moving on in top gear!
Genix - Thanks for your time mate! I personally am very happy to have you working alongside me at Passion and I’m sure that the faithful DFOP’s will be very happy to have you on board!
Thank you mate! Really looking forward to appearing along side yourself and the quality guests you will have playing. Very much looking forward to playing to a fantastic bunch in that passion main room!
Thankyou Mr Jon O'Bir
