Post Post subject: No Smoking I Say! Reply with quote

On recent events, a lot of countries and states are deciding to not allow smoking in bars/pubs. Here is what myself and stream were talking about just a few minutes ago:

Steven Hone™ says:
new law coming in on january where people cannot smoke in bars... like New York!
Stream says:
same here
Steven Hone™ says:
so bars will loose custom i guess
Stream says:
i think they will gain
Stream says:
means i can start going out again
Steven Hone™ says:
yes but people must smoke while they consume alcohol, and 80% of drinkers in ireland are smokers... this means they will prefer to get carry outs from supermarkets and offlicences and drink at home before going to a club
Stream says:
maybe
Steven Hone™ says:
but thats just ireland
Steven Hone™ says:
i think it will have an influence on drugs also
Steven Hone™ says:
people will maybe take E or smoke cannibis more now cause when they do that before going to a pub, i think they dont smoke much for a few hours
Stream says:
i'm not sure...but i think banning bar-smoking is an excellent idea...
Steven Hone™ says:
i agree... from a family point of view also
Steven Hone™ says:
but i think it should be allowed if new ventillation systems were installed, and/or maybe no smoking before a certain time such as 10 or 11pm

.....

What do u think?

I personaly dont like people smoking near me, does me head in! its a good idea... but i think pubs will lose business cuz smokers are addicted and cant go a day without a fag! so yeah they will go to the offys but i dont care as long as there smoke is away from me! Very Happy

i think it'll have to be a nationwide thing if they do it... if one club bans smoking they all do.. no expetions..

i think it will decrease the amount of young smokers Laughing

Dont smoke myself. Banning it in pubs is a little extreme to be honest, would take away the feel of a traditional pub. Banning it in clubs, triky. It dont matter where you ban it, people will still smoke.

i know that the bars and the clubs will lose a lot of revenue from banning smoking. what kinda smoker would want to pay money to get into a club in which they would have to leave if they were jonesing for a cig? the cigarette industry gives governments TONS of money in revenue coming from taxes, i don't think that the govts are that stupid... this is coming from the perspective of someone who smokes and has quit.. and then started up.. then quit =) even if it were to happen.. the funds that would be lost would quickly wake up the officials and a new solution, rather than completely banning smoking, would come in effect to rectify the financial dollars lost from the ban..

Can't ever see this government imposing a ban in this country, not before the next genral election anyway, would not be a popular move.

About the tax money from cigs:

Here is Canada, the government has a huge ant-smoking campaign on with a hotline and posters and ads. I think the government ends up spending more on the health care of smokers who have smoking-related diseases than they actually get in tax money.

If people smoke less, fewer people will get ill (cancer etc.)

--> government will use less money on health-care Smile
