© AppleOne of the world’s biggest music download outlets iTunes is to close at the end of this year as Apple announced it will no longer be offering its pay per download music service to move more into the streaming market with Apple Music…

Many of the biggest dance artists and labels have used iTunes for years for releasing their singles, albums and mix compilations on digital formats. It would seem there has been a shift in the way music is being delivered with streaming being the buzz word around the industry at the moment. Why pay £10 for half a dozen tracks or one album when you can have millions at your fingertips for £10 per month. I think its that argument that is pushing people more towards the streaming media rather than buying the digital music file.

It’s what Apple seem to think as they announced this week they will be pulling the plug on their long standing download service iTunes and putting their resources being their streaming services as they look to stem the rise of popular streaming service Spotify.

For the download enthusiast, It’s another avenue closed with I’m sure Beatport stealing the custom from it. The download format is loved by some but what a lot of big labels and artist have been talking about over the past few weeks its streaming that looks to be the next step forward in music delivery. For the collector, I do hope that the traditional formats still keep pumping out as there is something satisfying by having a wall full or CD’s and records. I’m sure it will but for the digital download, the future for it is very uncertain.

For now, enjoy iTunes while you can and don’t worry the music you have already purchased on the store you will not lose.
